Description
In July 1951, gunshots were heard at a school in Babice in the Třebíč region. Three officials of the Local National Committee were killed. Although the perpetrators were caught the very next day, the communist regime used the incident as a pretext to eliminate inconvenient individuals in the region. The regime unleashed one of the largest repressive actions in the history of Czechoslovakia with the aim of accelerating collectivization and the establishment of agricultural cooperatives, which had previously been unsuccessful in Třebíč and southern Moravia. The Communist Party declared war on its own nation. Executions, deportations of entire families, and confiscation of property instilled fear throughout the region. The publication 'Guide to the Babice Case' reveals, in the context of the time, the background, the course of the case itself, and its consequences for the local population. It presents important personalities and places associated with this case.
