Description
This monumental two-volume monograph on the painter Vojtěch Hynais (1854–1925), with an extensive collection of illustrations, aims to fill a gap in existing research on Czech and European art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The first volume examines Hynais’s life in the context of contemporary cultural events. Alongside chapters focusing on his painting methods, compositional structures and work with models, the book centres on thematically organized sections. A look into the artist’s correspondence provides insight into his personal background, contacts with internationally significant figures and work with students at the Academy. The second volume contains a catalogue raisonné of Hynais’s oil paintings and pastels, while extensive appendices present biographical data, lists of exhibitions, prizes and distinctions, studio and residence addresses, and examples of Hynais’s signatures.
