Description
The treatise of al-Qushayri (Arabic: ar-Risāla al-qushayriyya), written by one of the most influential medieval Sufi scholars, Imam Abu al-Qasim al-Qushayri (986–1072), is often regarded as the most popular and authoritative classical summary of Sufi teachings. To this day, Sufis readily use it for didactic purposes, as Qushayri intended not only to clearly summarize the teachings of spiritual masters from previous generations, their terminology, and the doctrine of the mystical path, but also to convincingly demonstrate that this teaching is fully in accordance with Islam as understood by early Muslims. He successfully fulfilled both goals excellently, and thus in his encyclopedic work, the strengths of apologetics are combined with a clear structure and precise explanations of key concepts. The complex and multilayered conceptual world of Sufism finds one of its keys and peaks in Qushayri's magnum opus. The second part of the Czech translation of Qushayri's treatise presents the most extensive section of Qushayri's summa, dedicated to the individual stages on the mystical path to God, as well as related moral-psychological questions and spiritual realities.
