Description

The ninth volume, following the volumes published in 1988, 1990, 1992, 1995, 1997, 2000, 2004, and 2010, contains the treatment of 7 families, the most extensive being Cyperaceae and Poaceae. In particular, the Poaceae family represents one of the most economically and agriculturally important families in the world, and cereals, especially representatives of the genera Avena, Hordeum, Panicum, Secale, Triticum, or Zea, rank among the most important food sources for humanity. The latest volume of the Flora includes taxonomic and chorological treatment with karyological, ecological, and cenological characteristics of 397 numbered species (and a number of unnumbered species listed in the Notes) belonging to 91 genera of 7 families of monocots. The text is supplemented by 120 full-page illustrated plates. The preparation of the volume involved 33 authors from nearly all significant botanical institutions in the Czech Republic. The main coordinator of the nine-volume Flora of the Czech Republic was the Botanical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences in collaboration with several other prominent botanical institutions.
