Description
From 1931 until the early 1970s, Martin Heidegger recorded his thoughts in notebooks bound in black waxed cloth. The entries are not dated but represent a unique philosophical diary that allows readers to glimpse deep into the author's mind, whether regarding his philosophical work or how he envisioned the revival of Germany through national socialism after World War I and how his ideas were disappointed by actual developments. Within the extensive body of Heidegger's work, which he himself organized at the end of his life and also determined the order in which the individual volumes should be published, 34 'black notebooks' were included at the very end as volumes 94–102. The first notebook (Reflections I) has not survived. Until their publication in the previous decade, even specialized researchers were not allowed access to these notes. **** MARTIN HEIDEGGER (1889–1976), assistant to E. Husserl since 1919, became his successor at the University of Freiburg in 1928 and served as its rector from 1933 to 1934. He emerged from Husserl's phenomenology and, in dialogue with his ancient and modern predecessors, developed the question of being throughout his life.
