Description
The main aim of this book is to explain how meadow communities function and describe the mechanisms that help preserve their diversity. Parallels between the processes shaping communities of meadow plants and human society help readers understand these mechanisms. The book draws on many years of research into the meadows of the Krkonoše Mountains by researchers from the Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Průhonice, as well as on other Czech and international research. Readers will also learn basic information about the origins and history of meadows in the Czech Republic, especially in the Krkonoše Mountains, together with the conservation problems and challenges they face there. The book includes extensive visual material, including views into several Krkonoše meadow communities and diagrams illustrating the various ways meadow plants live together.
