Description
The publication focuses on the topic of cartographic generalization. It presents a new method of generalizing built-up areas using typification techniques for regions with lower building density (rural or mountainous development). The proposed method is based on the preferential selection of buildings when mapping them based on their civic function, area, and location relative to surrounding roads, railways, and watercourses. The algorithm respects cartographic rules applied for this type of generalization operations and is designed for large-scale maps. The results achieved are presented using data from a total of fifteen municipalities with different predominant building types in both target scales. Otomar Gottstein (1993) studied for a master's degree in Cartography and Geoinformatics at the Faculty of Science, Charles University. He currently works as a geography and computer science teacher at a high school in Tanvald, Northern Bohemia.
