Description
This book guides readers through the internment of Czech Roman Catholic bishops in Czechoslovakia between 1949 and 1968. The Communist regime tried unsuccessfully to bring the bishops and the entire Church under its control and resorted to repression. The main part focuses on Prague Archbishop Josef Beran, České Budějovice Bishop Josef Hlouch and Brno Bishop Karel Skoupý, who were taken from their dioceses and subsequently transported to and imprisoned in various secret locations. The public had no idea where they were. While the Prague archbishop was eventually expelled after negotiations with the Vatican, Bishops Josef Hlouch and Karel Skoupý remained in internment until 1968. The publication thus reveals further crimes of Communism and documents them with extensive photographic material. The contents are in Czech.
