Description
This Czech-language nonfiction book presents an exceptional and previously unknown case from the history of the third resistance. Based on a critical study of archival materials and eyewitness memories, it combines two stories in a work that lies between factual literature and an academic historical study. The first describes the lives of collaborators in the foreign espionage resistance against the people’s democratic regime then ruling Czechoslovakia, while also examining the activities of the security apparatus during the first half of the 1950s. It follows numerous lives marked by the period, offering a glimpse, from their perspective, into a highly complex and bleak era of modern Czechoslovak history. The second story describes the contemporary difficulties involved in seeking the truth while documenting the case. The two narratives reach a shared climax with the discovery of the case’s central figure’s daughter, who lives in Germany, and the correspondence with her. The book also contains extensive photographic material.
