Description
The dictionary of univerbizats is a special linguistic dictionary that has not yet been published in our country. It does not focus on the meaning or form of the word itself or its spelling, pronunciation, or history, but rather on assigning a synonymous single-word name to a multi-word term – for example, 'absolventský film' to 'absolvenťák'. Some of these univerbizats are common and frequently used even in written texts, such as 'kreditka' for 'kreditní karta', while others are used only within a narrow circle of people connected by profession or sporting or cultural activities; for example, 'proutěnka' for 'proutěná překážka'. Our dictionary includes over 1200 univerbizated names, including proper names (Lomničák, Prodanka) and is organized alphabetically. The use of the univerbizat and its corresponding multi-word term in written texts is richly documented from authentic written sources.
