Description
Bohuš Beneš (1901–1977) was the nephew of a man who became one of the most important politicians in Czechoslovakia. Edvard Beneš watched over Bohuš from a young age and helped him build a career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During this time, he served on diplomatic missions in Geneva, Montreal, and London. After Munich, Bohuš became the secretary, confidant, and close advisor to the president in exile in London. In 1942, he was appointed consul in San Francisco, resigning on the day of his uncle's death, September 3, 1948. He wrote his memoirs for his family, not primarily for publication. In some places, he allows himself to be carried away by emotions and tends to embellish reality; nevertheless, it is a completely unique source that, alongside interesting details from the behind-the-scenes of high diplomacy, also brings closer the person and thought processes of Edvard Beneš.
