The collection includes two texts by Elias Canetti. In the essay collection The Book Against Death, the author – aware of the finiteness of human existence, yet struggling to accept it – meditates in a sometimes astonishingly surprising way on the limitations of human existence; at times he passionately rejects its finality, while at other times he resigns himself to it. In Hampstead, the English town where he lived for a time, Canetti recorded his observations on politics, art, and creators as usual. This book, Additions from Hampstead, contains both his brief and more extensive reflections, short and longer thoughts, sometimes almost aphoristic, but always penetrating.
