Můj a náš příběh – Rouček Libor (2019)

Politics does not always have to be just dirt, a struggle for power, or a pursuit of money, as we often see around us. Former Voice of America editor, spokesperson for the Czech government, and Vice President of the European Parliament Libor Rouček offers us a different perspective. His personal story takes him from the communist and working-class Kladno through a refugee camp in Austria and across four continents to the highest echelons of domestic and European politics. It is a story in which values and ideals of human freedom, dignity, and social justice play a more significant role than political power or money, guiding him throughout his life. Although the author allows a deep glimpse into his personal and family life, his hopes and disappointments, rises and falls, the reader will find in the book primarily an honest, precise, and often humorous description of many events that have influenced all our lives: the year 1968, the fall of communism and the breakup of Czechoslovakia, the activities of Zeman's government and the Social Democracy, our country's entry into the European Union, and many more. Of course, there is also a detailed insight into the activities and functioning of the European Parliament, as well as analyses and evaluations of significant domestic and global events, trends, and their connections. All of this is written in a clear, human, and understandable manner.
