Savci České republiky – Gaisler Jiří (2019)

The second edition of the comprehensive overview of mammals continues in content and graphic design from the 2012 edition. The text for each of the nearly 90 current species includes descriptions and main characteristics, as well as overall distribution, occurrence within the Czech Republic, information about habitats, a rough outline of ecology and bionomy, as well as data regarding abundance and conservation status, along with the most important citations. An integral part of the characterization of each species, graphically mostly processed in the form of a two-page spread, includes quality photographs (overall appearance, typical habitat), a distribution map in the Czech Republic, and a graph of occurrence by altitude. Accompanying chapters deal with the general characteristics of mammals, the development of the Czech mammal fauna over the last century, basic methods of monitoring mammals, as well as extinct species and non-native species kept in our country in the past. In the new edition, data sources (distribution maps, abundance graphs) and corresponding passages of text (especially Occurrence in the Czech Republic) have been updated, and changes in conservation status (new version of the Red List of the Czech Republic) and significant literary sources published after 2012 have been added.
