Description
The monograph presents a selection of ten texts by Milan Nápravník from the years 1978 to 2016. The reader thus gains an idea of the focus of the essayistic and critical work of this surrealist author, which remains unknown in its entirety to the Czech audience. The title of the book addresses one of the questions that Nápravník made the subject of his inquiry: Was the drive for power originally a drive for pleasure? Has there been a metamorphosis of erotic desire into a desire for control, which is realized within contemporary civilization through the relationship of subordination and superiority? The author repeatedly returns to the concept of ideology and the influence of religious or political ideologies on the lives of large human collectives in his works. Unlike contemporary trends that tend to overlook the significance of the ideological factor, he aims to identify its historical as well as mythological foundations. The selection also includes a calendar of the author's life and a photographic appendix. The edition was prepared by Ladislav Fanta.
