Akademická příručka českého jazyka – Svobodová Ivana (2019)

The second, revised and supplemented edition of the Academic Handbook of the Czech Language by a team of authors from the Institute for the Czech Language of the Czech Academy of Sciences, with the approval clause from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The handbook contains information about the Czech language, particularly regarding spelling, phonetic structure, morphemics, morphology, word formation, some syntactic phenomena, and also chapters on the formal arrangement of documents and language etiquette. Compared to the current Rules of Czech Spelling and grammars, some explanations in the handbook are more detailed and comprehensive (for example, in the area of capital letters, punctuation, agreement of the predicate with the subject, declension of personal and geographical names). The explanations also mention discrepancies in the data contained in various language handbooks or differences between codification and standard norms. In such cases, an evaluative comment and recommended solutions are attached. New chapters on pronunciation and gendering have been added to the handbook. The book is intended for all those interested in Czech, both the general public and its professional users, especially teachers and students. The Academic Handbook of the Czech Language received the Academia Publishing House's Bestselling Book of 2014 award and the Czech Bestseller 2014 award in the professional category.
