Description
The publication includes more than 300 detailed entries on samizdat editions, magazines, and selectively non-periodical collections, whose publication was a spontaneous response from both established and emerging creators to the legal and illegal restrictions on artistic expression during the communist regime. The authors did not only focus on the most well-known publishing ventures but also gathered many previously unknown details about various local editions and magazines that primarily or secondarily addressed literary creation and its reflection. The publication, prepared by researchers from the Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences with the participation of external specialists and in cooperation with the Libri prohibiti library, is supplemented by an extensive introductory study, indexes, and rich visual accompaniment.
