The monograph focuses on the issue of the pronunciation of standard Czech. It discusses the history of Czech orthoepic research, thoroughly examines the first attempts to capture pronunciation rules, the preparations of codification manuals at the Institute for the Czech Language, and summarizes the latest developments in the field of research on Czech standard pronunciation. The core of the work lies primarily in the analysis of the contents of significant orthoepic manuals; it concentrates in detail on those pronunciation rules that have gradually changed or whose wording is problematic from the perspective of contemporary pronunciation norms. The book also includes the results of phonetic analyses, conducted mainly in the Monolog corpus.
