Description
This Czech-language historical study examines the fate of approximately five thousand people of Jewish origin deported by the Nazi occupation authorities from the Slovak State to Sachsenhausen, Ravensbrück, Bergen-Belsen and the Terezín ghetto between November 1944 and March 1945. Drawing on archival documents, survivor testimonies and, to a limited extent, secondary literature, Daniel Putík seeks to explain the actions of perpetrators and victims, as well as the broader historical circumstances of this chapter in wartime Slovak history. His analysis also offers more general insights into the development of the “Final Solution to the Jewish Question” in European countries controlled by Nazi Germany.
