Description

The global world faces serious social problems, the effects of which we can also see in Europe. The European Union, whose main mission is to maintain peace and prosperity among all member states, has proven to be a very heterogeneous entity that struggles to find consensus on complex issues, such as the ongoing migration crisis. The consequence is a rise in anti-European sentiments, which provide fertile ground for a new wave of populism and nationalism, not only in post-communist countries but also in the political scene of traditional democracies. In light of the events that we, as a society, have faced in recent years, this book poses the question of how Czechs live in contemporary Europe. Specifically, we aim to capture the values and attitudes of the inhabitants of the Czech Republic in comparison with people living in other European countries. The book offers a thorough analysis of Europeans' attitudes in many areas of their lives, whether it concerns their overall value settings, life satisfaction, fears of crime and migration, the quality of democracy, or social capital.
