Description
The boundary layer of the atmosphere, i.e., the lower part of the atmosphere, is a natural environment for humans and influences their lifestyle both positively and negatively. The book summarizes a brief history of its research, basic concepts and definitions, describes flow in a rotating coordinate system, or the characteristic properties of turbulent flow and methods of mathematical and physical modeling, including the validation of mathematical models. Furthermore, it deals with newer approaches and findings, such as coherent structures or the problem of multiple scales in turbulent flow. Examples are provided to illustrate the applications of the described methods.
