Description
The Stalinist plan for transforming nature, which was launched in the USSR in the autumn of 1948, also fundamentally influenced Czechoslovakia's approach to post-war reconstruction and the transformation of nature and the environment. The publication describes the main features of this ambitious plan, the implementation of which was entrusted to Rudolf Slánský and Josef Smrkovský in Czechoslovakia. It follows the process of its implementation, institutional anchoring, and the management of natural resources, which in communist Czechoslovakia took place in the spirit of a radical rejection of Malthusian theories. The issue of continuity and discontinuity in Czechoslovakia's post-war development points to the possibilities and limits of the Sovietization policy of the new elites and the fundamental features of the continuity of science and technology in a time that did not favor continuity.
