Description
The lavish publication 'Seven Towers. Charles IV. Through the Eyes of Academics (1316–2016)' was created based on the exhibition of the same name, which took place in the main building of the Czech Academy of Sciences from April 6 to May 11, 2016. Through several selected themes, it presents the personality of Charles IV. within the ongoing research programs of the Czech Academy of Sciences and thus dignifies the 700th anniversary of his birth. The exhibition was structured around seven main thematic areas, each highlighting the contributions of various departments and institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences to the research of the Charles era. Similar to the exhibition, the presented monograph is also divided into seven sections. Short introductory texts provide a brief insight into the respective issues. However, the emphasis is primarily on studies that present the latest research by leading Czech experts. Since each chapter also includes catalog entries for the objects exhibited as part of the 'Seven Towers' exhibition, these discussions also serve as a guide for placing the presented objects in a broader context.
