Keře - Atlas – Bažant Václav (2018)

The Atlas of Shrubs primarily discusses the basic native (autochthonous) and commonly cultivated foreign (introduced) taxa, but it also includes less common taxa that are rarely published in literature and are just beginning to expand into cultivation. The main part of the publication contains approximately 250 species of shrub-like woody plants that are resilient to the climatic conditions of the Czech Republic. In selecting these species, the authors drew on their experiences cultivating shrubby species in arboreta in the Czech Republic. The arrangement of the woody plants is systematic by families, which enhances the clarity of the book and allows for easier identification of individual species based on morphological characteristics. The pages dedicated to individual species are divided into a textual and a photographic section. The textual part includes the main distinguishing features for reliable species identification, original geographical distribution, main ecological requirements, and cultivation demands. At the end, information is provided on the uses of individual species for various purposes, interesting facts, and also basic cultivated cultivars or varieties. The photographic section contains the overall habitus of the woody plants and details showcasing important identifying features.
