Description
For nearly a hundred years, scientists have deepened their understanding that the basic biogenic elements (C, O, H, N) have multiple stable isotopes (SI) and that their distribution in the Earth's lithosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere is uneven. The study of the heterogeneity and laws of the natural occurrence of SI has found applications in (paleo)climatology, archaeology, biology, and ecology in recent decades. This monograph is dedicated specifically to the latter two fields. It was created based on the authors' twenty years of experience as biologists with the fractionation of SI C, N, O, and H in the metabolism of plants and soil microorganisms, as well as in the physicochemical processes of material exchange between ecosystems, the atmosphere, and the pedosphere. The publication, the first of its kind in Czech, is primarily intended for biologists and ecologists, but it also introduces the basics of isotopic fractionation to interested parties from other fields.
