Description
Czech painter Oldřich Blažíček (1887–1953) belonged to the generation of artists who emerged with the establishment of the First Republic, during which a new social and cultural elite developed, enthusiastic about the ideas of the new state. Blažíček was a plein air painter, capturing landscapes in all seasons, most often in winter and early spring. His extraordinary ability to capture the interiors of architecture earned him a professorship in drawing and painting at the Czech Technical University in Prague. The monograph, containing previously unpublished written documents and photographs from his estate, portrays Blažíček as an artist, educator, and public figure, addressing his exhibition and association activities as well as his family and social environment, while also reflecting the atmosphere of his time. The monograph is supplemented by the most extensive catalog of the painter's works to date.
