The third part of the experimental concept of the history of Czech literature. The period from 1935 to 1947 brings a series of transformations of modernity, its confrontation with cataclysmic historical events, with ideology, and with moments when the freedom of creation and thought was replaced by power control. These factors necessitate the redefinition of modernist concepts, contemplating the relationship between individual existence, ideals, and real history. For these reasons, the word 'new' in the book's title appears in quotation marks. Modernity goes through a period of sobering, doubt, and transformation. The confrontation of modernist concepts with power that prefers controllable traditionalism, with situations in which personalities from the artistic world undergo persecution, are silenced and replaced by diligent second- and third-tier personas, which is again the reason for the chosen subtitle The Age of the Horizontal.
