Description
The collection of texts primarily stems from empirical work with statistical data and their visualization in the form of graphic and cartographic elements. The introduction discusses current trends in urban studies in the context of research on Prague. The first chapter reflects on two important demographic processes that contribute to the transformation of Prague's social environment: demographic aging and the reproductive behavior of young adults. The next chapter focuses on a specific topic within urban studies: urban crime. The following two chapters are based on the concept of social environment, evaluating the transformation of the working-class neighborhood in the inner city and the role of international migration in the transformation of residential areas. The final three chapters are localized to the city's background and examine, from various perspectives, the process of job localization, commercial suburbanization, and the concept of edge city. Case studies include the Prague districts of Holešovice, Hůrka, Novodvorská, Ruzyně, and several suburban municipalities in close proximity to Prague.
