Description
This four-part grammar builds on the foundations and goals of the single-volume Academic Grammar of Standard Czech (Academia 2013). Its intention is to provide not only linguists and teachers but also the entire cultural and educated public with insights into the formation and functioning of Czech grammar as a natural language, corresponding to the broadest spectrum of its forms and functions, from the most general level to the most specialized levels. Priority is given to the recording, definition, illustrative documentation, and explanation of phenomena as a means of linguistic communication over specialized linguistic theory. The first volume (in two parts) is dedicated to the characteristics of parts of speech and the explanation of word formation, while subsequent volumes address formal morphology, morphological categories, and a wide range of phenomena in both nonlinear and linear syntax.
