Euro-American journalism is in a deep professional-existential and existential crisis. It seems that the journalistic profession, as it was established particularly after World War II, is facing a paradigmatic change, which is usually preceded by a state of crisis. This process also affects Czech journalists. The monograph 'Czech Journalists in Comparative Perspective: Hybrid, Virtual, and Vanishing Journalists in the Post-Transformational Phase' seeks, in seven chapters, the causes of the crisis of the journalistic profession in the Euro-American context. The analysis focuses not only on the causes of the loss of credibility of Czech journalists but also touches on the entire process of their professional socialization, which takes place within the framework of post-transformational oligarchization of the domestic media system under the influence of hybridization and virtualization of professional practices, leading to a deepening of professional-identity splitting. The study is based on four quantitative and two qualitative surveys conducted among domestic journalists and on comparative research of Czech, Polish, and Swedish journalism students.
