Description
This Czech-language anthology explores the history of the concept of worldview, which contemporary Czech humanities generally associate with, or even equate with, ideology, usually understood as the normalization-era form of Marxism-Leninism. Its history probably begins with Kant’s Critique of Judgment (1790) and continues through distinctive interpretations by Wilhelm von Humboldt, Karl Jaspers, Karl Mannheim, Odo Marquard, Lucien Goldmann and Terry Eagleton. The book presents their approaches through translations of relevant texts, contextualizing commentaries and a study of the concept’s development in the Czech context. One of the anthology’s aims is to offer another perspective on the term: instead of viewing worldview in a political context, it examines it through the interpretation of texts, particularly literary works.
