Description
Even in the second half of the 19th century, the development of our physics was tied to the Prague university and polytechnic. After the establishment of Czechoslovakia, universities were founded in Brno and Bratislava, the education of mathematicians and physicists shifted from the philosophical faculties to the natural sciences faculties, and the first non-university institutions were established, such as the Radiological Institute and the Physical Research of Škoda Works. New fields were added, including other modern disciplines such as atomic and nuclear physics, X-ray structural analysis, and spectroscopy. The first part of this book describes physical research between the two world wars and introduces readers to 70 Czech, Slovak, and German physicists who worked in our country during this time through biographical entries. The second part contains an overview of the achievements in physics at Czech and German universities before 1918.
