Description
In the general public, opinions from school years prevail that Comenius's best play is Diogenes Cynicus Redivivus (Diogenes Reborn), as it deals with an interesting ancient theme, while Abrahamus Patriarcha (Patriarch Abraham) is a work about blind obedience to God, which is fundamentally repugnant to us modern people. The cycle of eight school plays Schola ludus (School by Play) is then seen by many theater practitioners as a dramatically worthless work, which some only tolerate for its significant educational contribution. Moreover, many people have adopted the ready-made opinion that Comenius's dramatic works are the pinnacle of our post-Battle of White Mountain drama. This publication attempts to counter simplistic judgments about Baroque literature with the aim of proving that things are not as simple and straightforward as they seem.
