Description
Dutch, the language spoken by the Dutch and Flemish, is the third most widely spoken Germanic language with over 25 million native speakers. Works written in Dutch began to emerge as early as the 8th century AD, and Dutch literature is among those literatures that are frequently translated into Czech. The work presents an overview of the history of Dutch and Flemish literature from its beginnings to the present, including fields such as children's and youth literature or Dutch literature written in former colonies. The author team from the Department of Dutch Studies at Palacký University in Olomouc works under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Wilken Engelbrecht, cand. litt. (1962), a professor of Dutch and Flemish literature. Other members include Dr. Lianne Barnard, Mgr. Lucie Smolka Fruhwirtová, Ph.D., Mgr. Marina Vitáčková, Ph.D., and PhDr. Eva Brázdová Toufarová. Each of them focused on a period according to their specialization.
