Description
During the 19th century, as a result of the industrial revolution and the development of capitalism, the traditional world of "small structures" disintegrated. There were extensive social changes, and the number of people living in poverty and socially excluded increased sharply. The anthology addresses some little-explored phenomena: individual charity (the Klar family foundation, Vojta Náprstek), collective philanthropy, and the beginnings of municipal and state social policy. It also thematizes the "exclusion" from the majority society and the repression applied against "non-conforming" groups of the population and individuals. It touches on various forms of reflection on social issues, or social self-reflection in art.
