Description
The book depicts the rich and dramatic life of Karel Horký (1879-1965), one of the significant yet overlooked Czech journalists of the first half of the 20th century, chronologically tracing the various stages of his life and journalistic activity, and describing the fate of a journalist who, although active in the anti-Austrian resistance, became an opponent of Masaryk and Beneš, which led him to the ranks of the interwar national right. The magazine Fronta, which he directed from 1927 to 1939, became a prominent platform sought after by opponents of the Castle. How did Horký behave during the turning point of Munich and the Second Republic and during the occupation? And what was his position during communism?
