Description
Gabriela Preissová is primarily remembered in the history of Czech literary and theatrical culture as the author of the realistic dramas Gazdina roba and Její pastorkyňa, whose premieres were met with a tumultuous response. The present monograph interprets these works not in isolation but as a node in a network of artistic dialogue, focusing not only on literary texts and their interrelations but also on various artistic genres and media. It is accompanied by a selection of all the major works that the interpretation touches upon. Thus, the reader is provided with the artistically vibrant core of Gabriela Preissová's work in the textual appendices of the book and on the accompanying DVD, alongside the works of later creators who adapted the author's pivotal dramas, such as director J. A. Pitínský and poet Ivan Wernisch.
