Description
The monograph is the result of many years of study on the issue of Czech literature in the periodicals of the National Revival era. It presents Czech-language periodicals from 1830 to 1850 as the most significant space for publishing and receiving beautiful literature at that time. With the help of correspondence, memoirs, and contemporary journalism, it reconstructs the conditions under which the magazines were published (Austrian censorship, publishers of Czech-language magazines, author fees, the influence of national ideology), and the nature of communication within the magazines (editor–author–reader). The second half of the book deals with the formal and content-related factors of the periodical environment that determined the published poetry and beautiful prose, providing a characterization of it (genres, themes, functions, originality, and translatability). The monograph includes an extensive appendix. It is published in the Literary Series edition.
