Description
In this travel book, Josef Donát writes about the thousands of exotic islands found around the world. Having spent much of his earlier life writing specialist medical literature, he later began recording his experiences from journeys to distant regions, producing five travel books. He has written about islands close to home in the Mediterranean and far away in the Pacific, but previously overlooked the romantic islands that match childhood ideas of Robinson, the Bounty and mysterious shipwrecks, as well as the coral reefs that now offer countless opportunities for scuba diving. The book covers both these romantic destinations and crowded islands filled with modern architecture. Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and Shanghai are included among places that are no longer perceived as islands. Donát brings these locations closer to readers primarily through pictures, explaining that he experienced nothing extraordinary on his travels.
