Description
The publication 'Hospital Architecture in the 21st Century' by Michal Juha and Karel Fořtl is the first book in our environment to address this organizationally and technically demanding topic after a long time. From the perspective of the publisher, the Institute of Building Science at the Faculty of Architecture, Czech Technical University, it is also an introductory publication in the 17/24 series of books on the built environment. Although, as the authors themselves point out, patients and their loved ones often experience painful moments in hospitals, the book carries an optimistic message: this suffering can be alleviated. A beautiful, well-organized environment reduces stress for patients, their families, and staff. ***** It helps everyone face challenging life situations with dignity and enhances treatment efficiency. ***** This book is also architecture in miniature: the complex topic is presented clearly, demonstrated through understandable diagrams, and the well-structured amount of information is supplemented with appropriately chosen examples of successful solutions. One can only hope that this spirit of clarity and competence will carry over into future designs of our hospitals through all those who become acquainted with the book, whether they are architects, doctors, hospital management, or health system representatives, as well as the public and its interested representatives.
