Housing Estates, What´s Next – Kohout MIchal (2016)

What next? What is the perspective of housing estates? How to conceptually enter these areas and how to initiate the process of their gradual transformation into attractive parts of the urban structure? How to limit the risks of future negative developments?

The publication summarizes the results of the research of the same name at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University and is divided into three parts. The introductory theoretical part analyzes the foundations of housing estate construction and provides a general summary of the possibilities for their further development. The second presents 18 model studies and 2 pilot projects for the modification of specific locations in Czech cities. The final part of the publication is dedicated to data overviews and graphic comparisons: it contains the results of analyses of the studied locations of Czech housing estates, comparisons of individual case studies, and an overview of the most interesting European examples of housing estate regeneration from the last 25 years.
