Description
This French-language novel follows the extraordinary Sinouhé in the fourteenth century BC. He moves through the streets of Thebes, the dissolute city, visits the terrible courtesan Nefernefer who ruins him, enters the temple of Amun among the priests and serves as physician to the pharaoh. He encounters the embalmers among the dead, goes to war against the Hittites and travels to Crete, where he enters the labyrinth of the Minotaur in search of a young virgin. Religious struggles in the time of Akhenaten, crimes, love, ambition and intrigue shape his journey. Tired of the gods and disgusted by humanity, Sinouhé joins the common people and preaches equality, bringing himself further troubles.
