Description
This deluxe edition of Jane Austen’s classic novel features an unabridged text, a glossary of Victorian and literary terms for modern readers, a ribbon marker, luxury endpapers, gilded edges and an elaborate cover. Austen playfully explores the social conventions of her time, presenting the search for a suitable partner as an all-consuming game. Confident, elitist Emma Woodhouse’s self-belief leads to a series of romantic misunderstandings as she makes and breaks engagements for her companion Harriet Smith. Emma assumes that Mr. Elton wishes to marry Harriet, although he actually wants Emma. Frank Churchill also tries to win her, but Emma falls in love with Mr. Knightley, whom everyone believes to be in love with Jane Fairfax. Eventually, Emma and Mr. Knightley become engaged, while Harriet and Robert Martin are reunited.
