Description
When Hurricane Leo threatens Florida’s Camino Island, the governor orders an evacuation. Most residents leave, but Bruce Cable, owner of Bay Books in downtown Santa Rosa, stays with a small group of determined locals. The hurricane devastates the island, destroying homes, hotels and businesses, flooding the streets and killing a dozen people. One victim is Nelson Kerr, a friend of Bruce’s and the author of political thrillers. Evidence soon suggests that Nelson was not killed by the storm but by several blows to the head. With the local police overwhelmed by the disaster, Bruce begins investigating who wanted Nelson dead. He wonders whether the suspicious figures in Nelson’s novels were based on reality, and whether the unfinished manuscript on Nelson’s computer contains the key to the murder. What Bruce discovers between the lines is more shocking than any of Nelson’s plot twists, and far more dangerous.
