A Study in Drowning – Reid Ava (2024)

THE SUNDAY TIMES AND NO. 1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING NOVEL, FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE WOLF AND THE WOODSMAN. Effy has always believed in fairy tales. Since childhood, she has been haunted by visions of the Fairy King, finding solace only in the pages of Angharad, a beloved epic about a mortal girl who falls in love with the Fairy King and then destroys him. Her tattered copy is all that keeps her afloat through her stifling first term at a prestigious architecture college. When the late author’s family announces a contest to design his house, Effy feels certain this is her destiny. But Hiraeth Manor is an impossible task: a musty, decrepit estate on the brink of crumbling into a hungry sea. There, she finds Preston Heloury, a young literature scholar studying Myrddin’s papers and determined to prove her favourite author a fraud. As the rival students investigate the reclusive author’s legacy through his letters, books and diaries, they discover that the house’s foundation is not the only thing that cannot be trusted. Dark mortal and magical forces are conspiring against them, and the truth may bring them both to ruin.
