The Portrait is a poignant story of two successful people who have built walls around themselves and of the difficult path towards courage and connection. Highly sought-after portrait artist Devon Darcy seems able to peer into the souls of her subjects and capture them on canvas, while the world knows nothing of the devastating losses she has endured, first as an orphan and later as a widow who lost her husband far too young. Entrepreneur Charles Mackenzie Taylor has given up on love and resigned himself to a loveless marriage to avoid the inconvenience of divorce. When Charlie meets Devon at a New York gallery event, he is haunted by her beauty and talent. He asks her to paint his portrait, and she is intrigued by him as well, with an undeniable electricity between them. As they meet throughout a summer in the Hamptons, their connection deepens and they begin to release years of suppressed emotions and unfulfilled longing.
