Description
In La Vita Nuova, Italy’s greatest poet recounts the famous story of his passionate love for Beatrice. Their relationship unfolds through stunning poetry and prose in one of history’s most celebrated love stories. From the first time Dante sees Beatrice, he declares that love has completely governed his soul, and his devotion to her never ends. By recalling each meeting, this short work becomes both a heartfelt account of youthful love and a religious allegory, as well as an important precursor to Dante’s masterpiece, The Divine Comedy. This edition presents Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s English translation from the original Italian, first published in The Early Italian Poets in 1861 and reissued in 1874. Rossetti’s meticulous and poetic translation received great acclaim.
