New Inspiration 2: Student´s Book – Prowse Philip (2012)

This new edition of an English coursebook is intended for multi-year grammar schools, secondary schools and, where English is taught as a second language, the final years of primary school. This is Book 2, although students can begin with Book 1 or Book 2 according to their level; Book 1 is intended for complete beginners. The course takes a structured approach to grammar and moves from controlled activities to freer activities that develop fluency and allow students to use the English grammar they have learned in communicative situations. It offers a wide range of age-appropriate texts and dialogues, including stories with teenage characters in Books 1 and 2. Each lesson develops language skills carefully and includes a two-page Integrated Skills section, which also encourages learner independence. The Inspiration Extra section contains projects, songs, sketches, quizzes, games and limericks, together with activities for mixed-ability classes. Culture and Review sections alternate at the end of each lesson, providing cultural information and revision. Each lesson consists of six two-page spreads. The first three introduce new material, with the lesson topic, grammar and functional language shown in the heading; they include pronunciation exercises and end with writing. The fourth, Integrated Skills, combines reading, listening, speaking and writing, followed by Learner Independence and Phrasebook sections. The fifth, Inspiration Extra, contains projects, games and a song or sketch, as well as activities for mixed-ability classes. Less advanced students can use Revision for more practice, while stronger students work with Extension for language development; both sections also appear in greater detail in the Workbook. The sixth spread alternates between Culture and Review. The end of the book includes materials for Communication Activities, a grammar overview and a lesson-by-lesson vocabulary list with pronunciation.
