Description
A tragicomedy, a satire of materialism and a cry of pain and injustice, this play centres on Timon, a wealthy and deluded Athenian who embodies both boundless optimism and vehement pessimism. After squandering his fortune through extravagant generosity, Timon falls deeply into debt, confident that the friends he has helped will come to his aid. Once they discover that his wealth has vanished, however, their promises quickly dissolve. This tragic exploration of power, greed and betrayed loyalty also examines how wealth shapes relationships and reveals the limits of friendship.
