Description
This English-language Shakespeare tragedy follows Coriolanus, a famed warrior turned politician who is driven from Rome as a traitor after arrogantly speaking out against popular rule and losing the goodwill of the starving people. Banished and embittered, he allies himself with his former enemies and plots a merciless revenge on Rome. Shakespeare’s politically ambiguous late tragedy questions the nature of heroism and what power really means. This edition is used and recommended by the National Theatre, with a general introduction by Stanley Wells, an edition by G. R. Hibbard and an introduction by Paul Prescott.
